PLT AND WELL TESTS SIMULATION IN FRACTURED RESERVOIRS PRIOR TO DUAL-MEDIA RESERVOIR SIMULATION

Le poste

Naturally fractured reservoirs often exhibit complex flow behavior that cannot be accurately reproduced using conventional dual-media (dual-porosity/dual-permeability) reservoir models alone. Before transferring fracture properties into a dual-media representation, it is essential to understand and constrain the geometry, connectivity, and hydraulic behavior of the underlying fracture network. Dynamic data, such as Production Logging Tool (PLT) measurements and well tests (mainly pressure build-up), provide valuable insights into fracture contributions to flow, reservoir compartmentalization, and inter-well connectivity. As such, they represent key datasets for the calibration of fracture models.

The objective of this internship is to investigate and improve the simulation of PLT and well tests within DFN models using FracaFlowTM. The work will focus on developing a thorough understanding of the physical and numerical mechanisms controlling well tests and PLT responses in fractured reservoirs, assessing the strengths and limitations of the current modeling approach, and identifying potential improvements to enhance its robustness, predictive capabilities, and applicability to real-field studies.

The key objective of the internship is also to contribute to the software's ongoing innovation through programming and the development of new functionalities on the dynamics analysis. These developments will further differentiate the software from competing solutions, strengthening its commercial value and supporting future business growth in fractured reservoirs studies.

The outcomes of this project will contribute to reducing uncertainties in fractured reservoir characterization and will support the development of more reliable dynamic models for reservoir management, production forecasting, and well placement optimization.
